Wearing a (presumably fake) dead animal on his head, and a red tie that stretched to the floor, Jon Stewart impersonated Donald Trump on CBS’s “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” last night. The video of it is embedded below.
Most of the appearance was pretty silly, with Stewart revealing Trump’s next batch of executive orders (example: China must send us their wall, to use on the Mexican border.)
But in the end, he became more serious in tone, saying: “We have never faced this before: Purposeful, vindictive chaos. … No one action will be adequate. All actions will be necessary. And if we do not allow Donald Trump to exhaust our fight, and somehow come through this presidency calamity-less, and constitutionally partially intact …” — he switches back to the first person here — “… then I, Donald J. Trump, will have demonstrated the greatness of America. Just not the way I thought I was gonna.”
Both Colbert and Stewart, who first worked together on Stewart’s “The Daily Show” on Comedy Central, are New Jerseyans. Stewart grew up in Lawrenceville and currently lives in Red Bank, and Colbert lives in Montclair.
Colbert and actor Patrick Wilson will sing with the New York-based Losers Lounge band, Feb. 4 at 8 p.m. at the Wellmont Theater in Montclair, at a fundraiser for the Montclair Film Festival titled “I Want My MFF!: A 1980s Dance Party.” Proceeds will be used to help launch the Investors Bank Film & Media Center — the new home of the MFF’s film and education programs, which will open in April.
