The Del-Lords will perform at a concert celebrating the life of Clarence Clemonst, Jan. 9 at Bar Anticipation in Lake Como.

“I feel as though a great hole has been excavated that will now need to be breached to regain some sense of wholeness in my little world,” wrote Scott Kempner of The Del-Lords on June 19, 2011, the day after Clarence Clemons died. Kempner had been a friend of Clemons since the early ’70s, when he was playing in the New York-based group The Dictators and E Street Band saxophonist Clemons was not yet a household name (“our two bands got on famously,” Kempner wrote), and he saw Clemons’ death as representing “an irreparable rupture in the band that has meant more to my adult life than any other, that I’ve listened to far more than any other, and that have given me the kind of strength that only Rock’n’Roll has ever supplied me with.”

I mention all this just to point out that it’s very cool that The Del-Lords will be one of the bands performing at the fourth annual Big Man’s Birthday Bash, which takes place Jan. 9 at Bar Anticipation in Lake Como. (Clemons was born on Jan. 11, 1942). The all-day show will raise money for the addiction recovery organization, CFC Loud N Clear.

Other performers will include Clemons’ son Nick Clemons and his band; Bon Jovi guitarist Matt O’Ree and his band; and former Joan Jett & the Blackhearts guitarist Ricky Byrd. Doors will open at 1:30 p.m., and the music will last from 2:30 p.m. to approximately 1 a.m.
