The Weeklings and Herman’s Hermits singer Peter Noone have teamed up for a video promoting their ingenious “Mr. Soul Satisfaction” collaboration: a mashup of Buffalo Springfield’s “Mr. Soul” (written by Neil Young) and The Rolling Stones’ “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” that was included on The Weeklings’ recent album, Raspberry Park. You can watch it below.
The video, in which the band is shown watching itself perform, was made at The URSB Carteret Performing Arts & Events Center.
In 2019, The Weeklings and Noone teamed up for a cover, and video, of The Easybeats’ 1966 hit “Friday on My Mind.”
The Weeklings said today, on social media:
While assembling tracks for the upcoming Weeklings “Raspberry Park” album, Glen Burtnik (aka Lefty Weekling) thought that a mash-up arrangement might work with the other material. After hearing “Mr. Soul” by The Buffalo Springfield (written and sung by a very young Neil Young) on Little Steven’s Underground Garage, Glen was inspired to reach back to his ‘60s roots, recalling the musical similarities among “Mr. Soul”, “Satisfaction” by The Rolling Stones, and “Valerie” by The Monkees. And it hit him — they would make a great mash-up!! The basic concept was that the lyrics to Mr. Soul could be sung over the music of Satisfaction. Based on a rough demo, the band took the idea into Shorefire Studios, Long Branch, New Jersey, and cut the rhythm track to what is now “Mr. Soul Satisfaction”. After recording the song, The Weeklings felt it would be cool to have a guest artist come in and sing the lead vocal track. But who would that be? Once again they reached out to a wonderful friend and supporter, the great Peter Noone of Herman’s Hermits fame who had done an amazing lead vocal on “Friday On My Mind” on their last album, “3,” and to the band’s surprise, once again, he accepted!
Here is the video:
The Weeklings’ next New Jersey appearance will take place on the second day of the Sept. 20-21 Medford Oktoberfest and Music Festival at Freedom Park in Medford (Burlington County). Visit medfordoktoberfest.com.
