Here is a roundup of arts events taking place around New Jersey, through Sept. 12.
MUSIC
• Jane’s Addiction, touring with its original lineup — singer Perry Farrell, guitarist Dave Navarro, drummer Stephen Perkins and bassist Eric Avery — for the first time since 2010, will perform at The Hard Rock Live at Etess Arena at The Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, Sept. 7 at 8 p.m., and The Rooftop at Pier 17 in New York, Sept. 10-11 at 6 p.m. Love & Rockets and Crawlers will open all three shows.
Jane’s Addiction recently released a rousing single, “Imminent Redemption” (listen below), that represents the original foursome’s first studio recording since 1990.
• Singer-songwriter Kacey Musgraves will bring her Deeper Well World Tour to The Prudential Center in Newark, Sept. 9 at 7:30 p.m., with Father John Misty and Nickel Creek opening.
Musgraves’ Deeper Well album, released in March, has yielded four Top 40 country hits: “The Architect,” “Cardinal” and “Too Good to Be True,” as well as the title track. Last month, she released an expanded version, Deeper Into the Well, with seven additional tracks.
• Sierra Boggess — whose Broadway credits include “The Little Mermaid,” “The Phantom of the Opera” and “Master Class” — will appear in the music-and-conversation series “Big Fat Broadway LIVE!,” hosted by pianist and SiriusXM satellite radio DJ Seth Rudetsky, at The Bell Theater at Bell Works in Holmdel, Sept. 7 at 8 p.m.
• “Malt Shop Memories” will be the theme of a free concert presented by the Garden State Arts Foundation at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, Sept. 12 at 7:30 p.m. Performers will include Bobby Wilson (Jackie Wilson’s son), Charlie Thomas’ Drifters (featuring Robert Marion), Jay Siegel’s Tokens, Vinnie Medugno, The Vogues, The Chantels, Frank Pizarro (formerly of The Platters), Vito Picone & the Elegants, The Chiclettes and Sounds of the Street.

• Singer-songwriter J.D. Souther will perform at The Vogel at the Count Basie Center for the Arts in Red Bank, Sept. 11 at 7:30 p.m. The Songwriters Hall of Fame member is best known for co-writing songs for The Eagles (“Best of My Love,” “Heartache Tonight,” “New Kid in Town”) and Don Henley (“The Heart of the Matter”), though he also has had some hits of his own — including “You’re Only Lonely” and the James Taylor duet “Her Town Too” — and formed the Souther-Hillman-Furay Band with Chris Hillman (The Byrds, The Flying Burrito Brothers) and Richie Furay (Buffalo Springfield, Poco) in the ’70s.
This show was postponed from May 2, and tickets for that date will be honored.
THEATER
• The McCarter Theatre Center in Princeton will present the world premiere of “Empire Records: The Musical” at its Berlind Theater, with previews beginning on Sept. 6, the official opening night on Sept. 13, and the last show on Oct. 6. Featuring music and lyrics by Zoe Sarnak and book by Carol Heikkinen, the musical is based on the 1995 film (also written by Heikkinen) of the same name, which is about a group of record store employees who try to save it, and themselves, from a corporate takeover.
Cast members will include Lorna Courtney (a Tony nominee for “& Juliet”) and Damon Daunno (a Tony nominee for “Oklahoma!”).
FILM
• SModcastle Cinemas in Atlantic Highlands will screen the documentary “Riot on the Dance Floor: The Story of Randy Now & City Gardens,” Sept. 7 at 7 p.m. Randy Now was the main concert promoter for the Trenton nightclub City Gardens, which was one of New Jersey’s busiest and most important concert venues in the ’80s and early ’90s. (watch trailer below)
(Randy Now remains active as the owner of Randy Now’s Man Cave in Hightstown, a record store that occasionally presents concerts.)
• WFMU DJ Suzy Hotrod will host a 7 p.m. Sept. 8 showing of the documentary “Electric Lady Studios: A Jimi Hendrix Vision,” at Monty Hall in Jersey City. (watch trailer below)
Hendrix helped design the Greenwich Village recording studio, which opened shortly before his death in 1970. It is still active; over the years, its clients have included Stevie Wonder, John Lennon, Patti Smith, U2, Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, Kanye West and countless others.
OTHER
• The Arts in the Park Street Fair — which will take place in downtown Highland Park on Sept. 8 from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. — will combine a street festival with a juried art show, arts and crafts vendors, a Kids Zone and four music stages.
• A family-friendly Renaissance Festival will offer a variety of anachronistic attractions, including jousting, at Camp Sacajawea in Sparta, Sept. 7-8, 14-15 and 21-22.
