The Two River Theater will kick off its 2021-22 season where it left off in 2020. The Red Bank theater opened a production of August Wilson’s “Radio Golf” shortly before the pandemic began, and wasn’t able to complete the run. So the 2021-22 season will begin with the same play, with the same director (Brandon J. Dirden) and most of the original cast, Nov. 6-21.
“Radio Golf” was Wilson’s last play, premiering on Broadway in 2005 (he died later that year, at the age of 60). It’s set in the 1990s and is the last of Wilson’s “Pittsburgh Cycle” — 10 plays, mostly set in Pittsburgh, with each one set in a different decade of the 20th century.
The season will also include:
• Anton Chekhov’s “Three Sisters,” translated by Madeleine George and directed by Sara Holdren, Jan. 15-Feb. 6.
• Tony Meneses’ “The Hombres,” a world premiere directed by Annie Tippe, March 12-April 10.
• “A Little Shakespeare,” introducing a Shakespeare play (TBA) to young audiences with a 75-minute abridged production, performed and supported backstage by high school students but directed and designed by theater professionals, May 6-15.
• Another show TBA, June 4-26.
“Radio Golf,” “Three Sisters” and the June play TBA will be presented in Two River Theater’s Rechnitz Theater, “The Hombres” and “A Little Shakespeare” in the smaller Marion Huber Theater.
COVID procedures have not been determined yet, but will be announced in the future.
Season subscriptions are now on sale, with single tickets becoming available on Oct. 4. Visit tworivertheater.org.
