The Trenton-based organization Artworks, which organizes the annual 24-hour Art All Night festival at Roebling Wire works, has vowed to help Trenton “emerge stronger and more unified than ever” after the shooting that left one person dead and 22 injured, June 17.
According to a message posted on the Art All Night website, artallnighttrenton.org, the shooting “has if anything strengthened our resolve to continue our work connecting Trenton’s wonderful and diverse cultures and communities through art and creativity, providing the city and its residents with education and recreation opportunities, and building a better Trenton for all.”
The message said Artworks intends to soon “announce plans for partnering with other great organizations in the community on a gathering which we hope will show the world that Trenton is strong and resilient, and out of this tragedy we will emerge stronger and more unified than ever.”
The message reads, in full:
We at Artworks are devastated by the tragic shooting which occurred at Art All Night early in the morning on June 17 and forced the cancellation of the remainder of the event. Our first thoughts are for the innocent victims of the violence and their families. Our hearts go out to them and we are wishing and praying for their speedy recovery.
The shooting is still under investigation by the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office and we still do not have access to the Roebling Wire Works site. We want to assure all artists who submitted work to Art All Night, that as soon as we are able to gain access we will begin efforts to return artwork to the artists. Please be patient, we will be contacting you and making arrangements to reunite you with your art.
Our sadness is unfathomable, our hearts are heavy, but this tragedy has if anything strengthened our resolve to continue our work connecting Trenton’s wonderful and diverse cultures and communities through art and creativity, providing the city and its residents with education and recreation opportunities, and building a better Trenton for all.
Artworks and Art All Night are currently in contact with many kind individuals and caring organizations in and outside of Trenton. We thank you for your expressions of support.
