Bob Marley died 36 years ago, but a still-evolving version of his backing band, The Wailers, continues to have a strong presence on the concert circuit. Five musicians who played with Marley ;— guitarists Junior Marvin and Donald Kinsey, bassist Aston “Familyman” Barrett and keyboardists Tyrone Downie and Earl “Wya” Lindo — are in the group that was booked to perform at the South Orange Performing Arts Center, Oct. 12.
Barrett, unfortunately, was not able to make the show, but is participating in the tour, whose current leg ends Oct. 21 in Virginia. The band also has dates booked in December and January in The South and The Midwest, as well as South America and The Caribbean.
Lead vocals in the group are handled by Josh Barrett (no relation to Aston), who was born in Elizabeth and grew up in Roselle.
