Author and musician Warren Zanes will appear in the next installment of The Bruce Springsteen Archives & Center for American Music’s online “Conversations With Our Curator” series, talking with BSACAM curator Melissa Ziobro and taking questions from those attending virtually.
The event will take place on July 8 at 7 p.m. and is free. (JULY 9 UPDATE: The conversation has taken place and is embedded below.)
Zanes, who lives in Montclair, is an accomplished singer-songwriter, a member of the band The Del Fuegos and the author of the bestselling 2015 book about Tom Petty, “Petty: The Biography.” But the credit that is probably most relevant here is that he is the author of 2023’s “Deliver Me From Nowhere: The Making of Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska.” The nonfiction book is currently being made into a movie, with Jeremy Allen White (“The Bear,” “Shameless”) portraying Springsteen and Scott Cooper (“Crazy Heart,” “Out of the Furnace,” “Black Mass”) directing.
Cooper has said: ““Bruce Springsteen, and Nebraska, in particular, have had a profound impact on me and my work. Through themes of despair, disillusionment, and the struggles of everyday Americans, Bruce has formed an unparalleled legacy, painting an unflinching portrait of the human condition. Yet, amidst the darkness, a sense of resilience and a sense of hope shines through, reflecting an indomitable spirit. That’s the Bruce I’ve come to know and love and will honor with this film.
“Warren Zanes’ wonderful telling of this chapter in Bruce’s life is ripe for cinematic adaptation. This film has the potential to be a transformative cinematic experience, offering audiences a window into the soul of Bruce Springsteen and the universal truths that bind us all together.”
